According to a statement by Police Gelsenkirchen, the supporter – said to be 32 years old – was injured after an altercation with two Schalke fans inside the stadium towards the end of the match.The statement read: “Shortly before the end of yesterday’s Champions League encounter in the Veltins Arena there was at 22.50 on the promenade in front of the guest fan block ‘S 1’ to a violent clash between two supporters of FC Schalke 04 and the English representative Manchester City.“In the wrangling, a 32-year-old Englishman was hit by a blow that caused him to fall to the ground. In this fall, he suffered a massive traumatic brain injury.“An emergency ambulance took him to the local emergency medical center for treatment at a local hospital.“There is currently acute danger to life.”
