Peter Crouch has called on Chelsea to go all out to bring Diego Costa back to the club.The former England striker does not believe Alvaro Morata will ever find his form in the Premier League and says the return of Costa would instantly transform Maurizio Sarri’s team into Premier League title challengers.3

Costa scored 59 goals in his three years at Chelsea

Costa left Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid in September 2017 after falling out with then manager Antonio Conte and claiming he had been treated like a “criminal” by the club.But Crouch reckons the 30-year-old could be tempted back to Chelsea.Writing in his Daily Mail column, the ex-Liverpool, Tottenham and current Stoke ace said: “Costa might be happy in Madrid, but if the only reason he went to Spain was Conte, hasnt that problem been solved?“All the top teams have a 30-goal assassin. Chelsea need one now more than ever.”Chelsea have scored the fewest goals of the top six so far this season – 38 from 21 matches – and currently find themselves ten points off leaders Liverpool, in fourth place.3

Maurizio Sarri made a good start at Chelsea but their form has faltered

Crouch insists they won’t be able to bridge the gap to Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham this season or next – unless they bring back Costa.“The title challenge wont happen this year,” he insisted.“For all that the early signs under Maurizio Sarri were good, Chelsea are going to see the three teams ahead of them disappear into the distance.“But after watching their 0-0 draw with Southampton earlier this week, I have concerns about whether they will mount a proper title challenge next season, too.“The one thing you need is someone to score you 30 goals and they do not have a player likeHarry Kane, Mo Salah orSergio Aguero.“Not so long ago, they did. Diego Costa would absolutely transform Chelseas fortunes and, if it was down to me, Id break the bank to re-sign him.“You can talk about Gonzalo Higuain or Karim Benzema, but I think Costa would be the one to take Chelsea where they want to be.”Chelsea signed a striker for big money in 2017 – Alvaro Morata in a 60m deal – but Crouch doesn’t believe he will ever cut it in England.3
